When I say that I love my juicer, I want you to understand that I LOVE my juicer. Not only is it one of the loveliest objects in my kitchen (okay, my whole apartment) but having the ability to drink fresh juice every day makes me feel virtuous and healthy. Even better, juicing for skin that is radiant and glowing is a smart addition to your skincare regimen!
I’ve forced myself to stop talking about juicing in social situations because it was getting awkward. I was halfway through explaining to a friend my favorite technique for juicing kale before I realized she was politely trying to exit the conversation—because she’d already heard it.
Whatever your passion—juicer, blender, smoothie-maker—getting a lot of healthy veggies and fruits in your body is amazing for your skin. Remember that some fruits—like antioxidant-rich blueberries—are great for your health while other fruits (while still good for you) should be eaten in moderation to avoid ingesting too much sugar (cherries come to mind).
Here’s my absolute favorite juicer recipe.*
10 Kale Leaves
¼ Inch piece of Ginger
Kale is packed with Vitamin C, which provides antioxidant protection for the skin while encouraging the production of collagen and helping to prevent skin damage. Carrots contain beta-carotene, which converts into Vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A helps the skin by aiding with the repair of skin tissue and helping protect it from the sun. Ginger is amazing for digestion, but it also has fantastic anti-inflammatory properties as well! I add the apple to give the juice a bit more sweetness, but its antioxidant abilities are pretty great too.
Also, it’s better not to juice the ginger last. Putting it into the machine before something substantially more juicy (like the apple) will help you get as much ginger flavor as possible. If I have a cucumber, I’ll sometimes add that in as well for a little extra hydration as well as Vitamins A, B, and C.
Okay, I’ll stop talking about juicing now. What’s your favorite healthy and delicious indulgence?
