Prom Makeup And Beauty

So you’ve been to the Homecoming Dance, Spring Fling, Sophomore Semi-Formal, and a few other soirees at your school, but trust us, the prom is the biggest one of them all. The best prom makeup starts with well-cared-for skin.

Here’s your guide to beautiful skin for the big day!

Body Acne

Okay, let’s get started by talking about BODY ACNE. Some of you may be showing a bit more skin than usual at the prom, and teenage hormones often cause acne on the back, shoulders, and chest.

Here’s what you’re going to do: Start using the A.H.A. Botanical Body Wash immediately.

(I stopped using this for a week and lived to regret it; thank goodness it happened in the middle of winter when I could hide my breakout under clothes!)

We also have a toner specifically designed to fight body acne— the Special Cleansing Lotion O.

You can use many of our products designed for the face on your body. The Drying Mask, for example, can certainly be used on the back and chest, as can our acne spot treatments. When I stopped using the body wash and experienced a few back breakouts, I definitely relied on the Drying Lotion to get me through!

Super-Oily Skin and Makeup

Want to be sure your makeup will stay on all night? We can help with that!

First, get the proper cleanser for your skin type. In this case, we recommend the Botanical Facial Gel or the Acne Facial Cleanser (if acne is a concern). We also have a Special Mask for Oily Skin AND a Control Moisturizer For Oily Skin.

[We recommend: 2 Game-Changers for Oily, Sensitive Skin]

PRO TIP: Before you dust on a little powder to keep your skin shine-free, mix a little bit of Special Healing Powder with your usual mattifier. This is particularly helpful for those with oily skin that is also irritated, sensitive, and/or acne-prone.

Dry Skin

Whether your skin type is Dry or you’re getting dry patches in areas treated for acne, check out the Herbal Hydrating Serum. Also, make sure you exfoliate before applying moisturizer and makeup so that there won’t be any visible flakiness on your skin for the big night!

What Not To Do

Don’t go to the tanning salon or spend hours poolside/beachside in search of the perfect, golden tan. There is no such thing as a healthy tan; in fact, a ‘tan’ is the skin’s way of protecting itself from the damage incurred by the sun. Not only does tanning increase your risk of skin cancer—a very real risk—but it also accelerates the aging process and may cause additional acne breakouts.

Instead, use an at-home self-tanner (we have an Oil-Free Self Tanning Lotion) or visit your local spa for a spray tan.

Also, don’t pick at or pop pimples in an attempt to get them to clear up faster. This can—and does—lead to permanent scarring AND doesn’t clear up your acne breakouts instead, check out the next section to discover what to do when your skin breaks out before the prom.

Acne Treatment

If you can have only one beauty product in the days leading up to the prom, make it the Drying Lotion. It’s popular throughout the world and used by celebrities and makeup artists for very good reason—it works.

When a whitehead crops up, simply apply the Drying Lotion before bed. Be sure not to shake the bottle and use a cotton swab to dip into the pink sediment at the bottom of the bottle (to watch a video of how to use this product, visit us here).

Above all else… have fun!
