If you spend time in the sun (particularly if you’re purposely tanning), eventually you will incur some sun damage. Worse, your skin might trick you for years, hiding dark spots and hyperpigmentation until you reach your mid-thirties. Pretty soon all of the sun mistakes you’ve made over the years may become far more evident.
You can’t exactly reverse sun damage, but there is a lot you can do to prevent future sun-related hyperpigmentation while working to brighten up existing areas of discoloration.* Here’s your plan of action:
- Take advantage of Alpha Hydroxy Acids. Glycolic Acid, for example, is a chemical exfoliant that works by accelerating your skin’s turnover rate, helping you to reveal newer, fresher, more radiant skin. You can find Glycolic Acid in a number of forms, including in eye creams, gels, and exfoliating cleansers.

- Use a Vitamin C Serum. Vitamin C works to visibility brighten the skin and even out skin tone.
- Prevention. Never leave home again without first applying sun protection with a factor of at least 15. Be sure to do this whether you’re spending the day at the beach or simply driving to work on a cold winter morning. Sun protection is vital at all times in order to help prevent further sun damage. - Treat sunspots using skin-brightening ingredients such as Kojic Acid and Licorice Extract. Apply a brightening mask 2-3 time each week to gradually help start the process of reversing sun damage.
